Free, private checks before you trust an agent or pay a fee.

Checklist for parents: before you pay or sell anything

Read this with your child. Tick each line. If you cannot tick a line, stop, and ask the university yourself before any money moves. Being scammed is never anyone's fault. These people are practised, and they fool careful people.

Confirm with the university yourself

  • We found the university's website by typing the address ourselves, not from a link or a number an agent gave us.
  • The university's own admissions office has confirmed the offer, the course and the fee in our child's name. We used the email address published on the university's own website.
  • We know that only the university can confirm an offer, a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies), a CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment) or an I-20 (US Certificate of Eligibility). An agent or a website cannot. A letter that looks perfect can still be fake.

Check where the money goes

  • The payment page is linked from the university's own website.
  • The account name is the university's name, not a person's name.
  • Nobody asked for cash, crypto, gift card codes, a mobile wallet or a personal account.
  • We will keep every receipt, and ask the university in writing to confirm that it received our payment.
  • Nobody offered us a discount if we pay through them. Only the university can give a fee discount.

Check the agent or consultant

  • Nobody has promised a visa or an admission. Only the university decides admission, and only the embassy or the immigration authority decides a visa.
  • Nobody has told us to keep it secret, or to decide today.
  • Our child keeps their own passport, their own university portal login and their own visa account. Nobody has our passwords or one-time codes.
  • We asked the university, in writing, whether this agent represents it. If someone says they are government licensed, we ask which body gave the licence and for which service, and we open that body's own website.
  • We have a written contract, and a receipt for every payment, in our child's name.

Before you sell land, gold or a house

  • We have stopped. We have confirmed the admission and the exact fee amount directly with the university first.
  • We have talked to someone we trust.
  • We know that no real deadline needs property sold within hours. Real deadlines are published on the university's website.

If your child tells you something is wrong

  • Thank them for telling you. Stay calm, stay close, and do not blame them.

If money has already been paid, read this guide now: I already paid a scammer or fake agent: what to do now

Check it together. In the Check tab, paste the agent's message into Agent message, or think through a payment in Before you pay. Both are free, and nothing you type leaves your phone.
