Is this German university recognised? How to check

Check that the institution is a state-recognised German higher education institution on Hochschulkompass, run by the German Rectors' Conference. Use anabin, the database of the German education ministers' conference, to see how foreign qualifications are rated. Only the university decides admission, and visa appointments for Pakistan are booked through the Foreign Office's Consular Services Portal, not through an agent.

Step 1: Hochschulkompass

Hochschulkompass is the official search for German higher education institutions. It is run by the Hochschulrektorenkonferenz (HRK), the German Rectors' Conference. A listing there means the institution is a state-recognised German higher education institution.

It does not mean you have a place, and it does not mean you will get a visa. It also does not tell you how a German institution rates your own qualifications.

  1. Open the Hochschulkompass website by typing the address from the Sources list.
  2. Search for the institution's name.
  3. Open the institution's own website from that listing, and use only the contact details on that website.

Step 2: anabin

anabin is run by the Central Office for Foreign Education of the Kultusministerkonferenz (KMK). It gives information on how foreign institutions and qualifications are rated in Germany.

It is a search tool, not a list you can download, and TaleemParakh does not copy it. Use it on the official website. If the result is unclear, ask the university's admissions or international office how your qualification is treated.

Who decides your admission

Only the university decides who it admits. Nobody outside the university can sell you a place, so an agent who says they can 'fix' admission is a warning sign. Apply through the university's own application route and keep control of your own accounts and passwords.

Visa appointments

The German Embassy in Islamabad says registrations for study visa appointments are made through the Federal Foreign Office's Consular Services Portal. If someone sells you an appointment or books it through WhatsApp, that is a warning sign.

Open the embassy page yourself, by typing its address, and follow the link to the portal from there.

Before you pay anyone

Pay fees only through details you found yourself on the university's website. If you are asked for an email or link check, paste the sender's address into the Email and link check. Germany's blocked account has its own guide: 'Open a German blocked account safely'.

Questions people ask

Does a Hochschulkompass listing mean I will get a visa?

No. It shows that the institution is a state-recognised German institution, not that you have a place or a visa.

Can an agent get me admission to a German university?

Only the university decides admission. Treat a promise of guaranteed admission as a scam sign and ask the university directly.
